Pelvic Pain Problems
You don't have to suffer in silence anymore. Help is here for conditions from incontinence to pain with intercourse.
You might have felt that you had to live with your bladder control problems, pain with intercourse or other pelvic floor problems. But many times, women find relief with treatment including physical therapy.
The pelvic floor includes your pelvic organs and the muscles and tissues that support them. This area of your body functions as support for those internal organs, helps control elimination from the bladder and bowels, and is involved in sexual response.
The most common pelvic floor dysfunctions are bladder control problems, which can be caused by childbirth, surgery, chronic disease, repeated heavy lifting or medications.
Pelvic floor rehab includes an assessment and treatment of pelvic floor disorders. The initial evaluation consists of the therapist assessing:
- Posture
- Joint motion
- Muscle strength
- External and internal examination
The treatment plan may include:
- Posture education
- Therapeutic exercise
- Relaxation and stress management training
- Biofeedback
- Muscle stimulation
- Manual therapy such as massage and trigger point release
Most patients are seen 1-2 times a week for 8-12 weeks on average.
